Definition of Thales
  • (circa 624-circa 545 bc), Greek philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer, living at Miletus. Judged by Aristotle to be the founder of physical science, he is also credited with discovering the principles of geometry. He proposed that water was the primary substance from which all things were derived.
