Definition of Renoir, Auguste
(1841–1919), French painter; full name Pierre Auguste Renoir. An early Impressionist, he developed a style characterized by light, fresh colours and indistinct, subtle outlines. Notable works: Les Grandes baigneuses (1884-7).
