Definition of Pelletier, Pierre-Joseph
(1788–1842), French chemist. With his friend Joseph-Bienaimé Caventou (1795–1877) he isolated a number of alkaloids for the first time. Pelletier and Caventou also isolated the green pigment of leaves and gave it the name chlorophyll.
