  • (1897–1975), US novelist and playwright; full name Thornton Niven Wilder. His work is particularly concerned with the universality of human experience, irrespective of time or place. He wrote the novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey (1927) and the plays Our Town (1938) and The Skin of Our Teeth (1942).
