Definition of Mencius
(circa 371-circa 289 bc), Chinese philosopher; Latinized name of Meng-tzu or Mengzi (“Meng the Master”). Known as a developer of Confucianism, he believed that rulers should provide for the welfare of the people and that human nature is intrinsically good. one of the Four Books of Confucianism, containing the teachings of Mencius.
