Definition of Maupassant, Guy de
(1850–93), French novelist and short-story writer; full name Henri René Albert Guy de Maupassant. He wrote about 300 short stories and 6 novels in a simple, direct narrative style. Notable novels: Une Vie (1883) and Bel-Ami (1885).
