Definition of Hamadan
a commercial city in western Iran, in the Zagros Mountains between Tehran and Bakhtaran; population 479,600 (est. 2006). It is on the site of the ancient city of Ecbatana, which became the capital of the kingdom of Media in the 6th century bc.
