  • (1848–1903), French painter; full name Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin. He lived mainly in Tahiti from 1891, painting in a post-Impressionist style that was influenced by primitive art. Notable works: The Vision after the Sermon (1888) and Faa Iheihe (1898).
