Definition of Fosbury, Dick
(1947-), US high jumper; full name Richard Douglas Fosbury. He originated the now standard style of jumping known as the “Fosbury flop,” in which the jumper clears the bar head first and backward. In 1968, he won the Olympic gold medal using this technique.
