Definition of Evans, Sir Arthur
(1851–1941), English archaeologist; full name Sir Arthur John Evans. His excavations at Knossos (1899–1935) resulted in the discovery of the Bronze Age civilization of Crete, which he named Minoan after the legendary Cretan king Minos.
