Definition of Bishop, Elizabeth
  • (1911–79), US poet. Her poetry contrasts her experiences in South America 1952–67 with her New England origins. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her first two collections, North and South (1946) and A Cold Spring (1955). Other notable works include Geography III (1976).
