Definition of Bishop, Elizabeth
(1911–79), US poet. Her poetry contrasts her experiences in South America 1952–67 with her New England origins. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her first two collections, North and South (1946) and A Cold Spring (1955). Other notable works include Geography III (1976).
