(circa 1565–1611), English explorer. He discovered the North American bay, river, and strait that bear his name. In 1610, he attempted to winter in Hudson Bay, but his crew mutinied and set Hudson and a few companions adrift, never to be seen again
(1841–1922), British naturalist and writer, born in Argentina. A prolific author, he was an astute observer and lover of nature. Notable works: The Naturalist in La Plata (1892) and Nature in Downland (1900)
