pedal2
Pronunciation: /ˈpɛd(ə)l, ˈpiːd(ə)l/

Origin:
early 17th century: from Latin pedalis, from pes, ped- 'foot'

Do not confuse pedal with peddle. Pedal means 'a foot operated lever' or 'make a bicycle move by working the pedals' ( I pedalled along the road), whereas peddle means 'sell goods' ( they peddled their wares in the market) or 'promote an idea'.
