Definition of Young Italy
a movement founded by Giuseppe Mazzini in 1831 to work towards a united Italian republic. In the 1830s and 1840s the movement plotted against the Italian governments. It failed to gain popular support but was nevertheless a significant stimulus to the Risorgimento.
