Definition of Woolley, Sir Leonard
(1880–1960), English archaeologist; full name Sir Charles Leonard Woolley. He directed a British-American excavation of the Sumerian city of Ur (1922–34) which uncovered rich royal tombs and thousands of clay tablets.
