  • (1884–1948), Japanese military leader and statesman, Prime Minister 1941-4. He initiated the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and by 1944 he had assumed virtual control of all political and military decision-making. After Japan’s surrender he was tried and hanged as a war criminal.
