  • (1880–1958), Scottish birth-control campaigner; full name Marie Charlotte Carmichael Stopes. Her book Married Love (1918) was a frank treatment of sexuality within marriage. In 1921 she founded the pioneering Mothers' Clinic for Birth Control in London.
