  • (1030–79), patron saint of Poland; Polish name Stanisław /staˈniswaf/; known as St Stanislaus of Cracow. As bishop of Cracow (1072–79) he excommunicated King Boleslaus II. According to tradition Stanislaus was murdered by Boleslaus while taking Mass. Feast day, 11 April (formerly 7 May).
