Definition of St Bernard Pass
  • either of two passes across the Alps in southern Europe. The Great St Bernard Pass, on the border between SW Switzerland and Italy, rises to 2,469 m (8,100 ft). The Little St Bernard Pass, on the French-Italian border south-east of Mont Blanc, rises to 2,188 m (7,178 ft).

named after the hospices founded on their summits in the 11th century by the French monk St Bernard
