Definition of St Vincent and the Grenadines
  • an island state in the Windward Islands in the Caribbean, consisting of the mountainous island of St Vincent and some of the Grenadines; population 104,600 (est. 2009); languages, English (official), English-based Creole; capital, Kingstown.

The French, Dutch, and British all made attempts at settlements in the 18th century, and the islands finally fell to British possession in 1783. The state obtained full independence with a limited form of membership of the Commonwealth in 1979
