  • (b.1930), American composer and lyricist; full name Stephen Joshua Sondheim. He became famous with his lyrics for Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story (1957). He has since written a number of musicals, including A Little Night Music (1973) and Sweeney Todd (1979).
