  • (1915–2012), Polish-born Israeli statesman, Prime Minister 1983-4 and 1986–92; Polish name Yitzhak Jazernicki. Under his leadership Israel did not retaliate when attacked by Iraqi missiles during the Gulf War, thereby possibly averting an escalation of the conflict.
