  • (1314–92), Russian monastic reformer and mystic; Russian name Svyatoi Sergi Radonezhsky. He founded forty monasteries, re-establishing the monasticism which had been lost through the Tartar invasion, and inspired the resistance which saved Russia from the Tartars in 1380. Feast day, 25 September.
