  • (1835–1921), French composer, pianist, and organist; full name Charles Camille Saint-Saëns. His work, which is characterized by elegance of form and melodic invention rather than emotion, includes his Third Symphony (1886), the tone poem Danse macabre (1874), and the Carnaval des animaux (1886).
