  • 1st Earl Russell (1792–1878), British Whig statesman, Prime Minister 1846–52 and 1865-6. He was responsible for introducing the Reform Bill of 1832 into Parliament and resigned his second premiership when his attempt to extend the franchise further was unsuccessful.
