  • a Greek island in the SE Aegean, off the Turkish coast, the largest of the Dodecanese and the most easterly island in the Aegean; population 130,000 (est. 2004). Greek name Ródhos.
  • the capital of the island of Rhodes, a port on the northernmost tip; population 55,900 (est. 2009). It was founded circa 408 bc and was the site of the Colossus of Rhodes.
