  • a county of east central Wales, on the border with England, formed in 1974 from the former counties of Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire, and most of Breconshire; administrative centre, Llandrindod Wells.
  • a former Welsh kingdom. At its most powerful in the early 12th century, Powys was conquered by the English in 1284.
