Definition of Pollock, Jackson
  • (1912–56), American painter; full name Paul Jackson Pollock. He was a leading figure in the abstract expressionist movement and from 1947 became the chief exponent of the style known as action painting, whereby he poured, splashed, or dripped paint on to the canvas.
