Definition of Polanski, Roman
  • (b.1933), French film director, of Polish descent. His second wife, the actress Sharon Tate (1943–69), was one of the victims of a multiple murder by followers of the cult leader Charles Manson. Notable films: Rosemary’s Baby (1968), Chinatown (1974) and The Pianist (2002), for which he won an Oscar.
