Definition of Parma
  • a province of northern Italy, south of the River Po in Emilia-Romagna.
  • the capital of Parma; population 182,389 (2008). Founded by the Romans in 183 bc, it became a bishopric in the 9th century ad and capital of the duchy of Parma and Piacenza in about 1547.
