Paracelsus

Pronunciation: /ˌparəˈsɛlsəs/

Definition of Paracelsus
  • (circa 1493–1541), Swiss physician: born Theophrastus Phillipus Aureolus Bombastus von Hohenheim. He developed a new approach to medicine and philosophy based on observation and experience. He saw illness as having a specific external cause (rather than resulting from an imbalance of the bodily humours), and introduced chemical remedies to replace traditional ones.
