Definition of Nereid
  • 1 Greek Mythology any of the sea nymphs, daughters of Nereus. They include Thetis, mother of Achilles.
  • 2 Astronomy a satellite of Neptune, the furthest from the planet, discovered in 1949. It has an irregular shape (with a diameter of about 340 km) and an eccentric orbit.
