  • 1a river in central Europe, which rises in the north of the Czech Republic and flows over 225 km (140 miles) generally northwards, forming the southern part of the border between Germany and Poland (the Oder-Neisse Line) and joining the River Oder north-east of Cottbus. German name Lausitzer Neisse; Polish name Nysa.
  • 2a river of southern Poland, which rises near the border with the Czech Republic and flows 195 km (120 miles) generally north-eastwards, through the town of Nysa, joining the River Oder south-east of Wrocław. German name Glatzer Neisse.
