Definition of Moissan, Henri
  • (1852–1907), French chemist; full name Ferdinand Frédéric Henri Moissan. In 1886 he succeeded in isolating the very reactive element fluorine. In 1892 he invented the electric-arc furnace that bears his name. Nobel Prize for Chemistry (1906).
