Definition of Messiaen, Olivier
(1908–92), French composer; full name Olivier Eugène Prosper Charles Messiaen. His music was influenced by Greek and Hindu rhythms, birdsong, Stravinsky and Debussy, and the composer’s Roman Catholic faith. Notable works: Quartet for the End of Time (1941).
