Definition of Ho Chi Minh
  • (1890–1969), Vietnamese communist statesman, President of North Vietnam 1954–69; born Nguyen That Thanh. He led the Vietminh against the Japanese during the Second World War, fought the French until they were defeated in 1954 and Vietnam was divided into North and South Vietnam, and deployed his forces in the guerrilla struggle that became the Vietnam War.
