Definition of Harrod, Charles
(1800–85), English grocer and tea merchant; full name Charles Henry Harrod. In 1853 he took over a shop in Knightsbridge, London, which, after expansion by his son Charles Digby Harrod (1841–1905), became a prestigious department store.
