Definition of Glinka, Mikhail
(1804–57), Russian composer; full name Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka. Regarded as the father of the Russian national school of music, he is best known for his operas A Life for the Tsar (1836) and Russlan and Ludmilla (1842).
