Definition of Gibraltar, Strait of
a channel between the southern tip of the Iberian peninsula and North Africa, forming the only outlet of the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic. It is some 60 km (38 miles) long and varies in width from 24 km (15 miles) to 40 km (25 miles) at its western extremity.
