Definition of Gauguin, Paul
  • (1848–1903), French painter; full name Eugène Henri Paul Gauguin. From 1891 he lived mainly in Tahiti, painting in a post-Impressionist style that was influenced by primitive art. Notable works: The Vision after the Sermon (1888) and Faa Iheihe (1898).
