Definition of Engels, Friedrich
  • (1820–95), German socialist and political philosopher. He collaborated with Marx in the writing of the Communist Manifesto (1848) and translated and edited Marx’s later work. Engels’s own writings include The Condition of the Working Classes in England in 1844 (1845).
