  • (1912–90), English novelist, poet, and travel writer, brother of Gerald Durrell; full name Lawrence George Durrell. He spent much of his life abroad, particularly in the Mediterranean. Notable works: Alexandria Quartet (four novels, 1957–60) and Prospero’s Cell (travel, 1945).
