  • (1902–84), English theoretical physicist; full name Paul Adrian Maurice Dirac. He described the properties of the electron, including its spin, and postulated the existence of the positron by applying Einstein’s theory of relativity to quantum mechanics. Nobel Prize for Physics (1933).
