- (b.1935), South African novelist, short-story writer, and dramatist. He gained international recognition with his novel Looking on Darkness (1973), which became the first novel in Afrikaans to be banned by the South African government. Other notable novels: A Dry White Season (1979) and A Chain of Voices (1982).
