  • (1923–64), Irish dramatist and poet; full name Brendan Francis Behan. A committed supporter of Irish nationalism, he is noted for the novel Borstal Boy (1958), which describes his punishment for involvement in terrorist activities, and the play The Quare Fellow (1956).
