Definition of Artaud, Antonin
(1896–1948), French actor, director, and poet. He developed the concept of the non-verbal Theatre of Cruelty, which concentrated on the use of sound, mime, and lighting, expounding his theory in a series of essays Le Théâtre et son double (1938).
