Definition of Walker, Alice
  • (1944-), US writer and critic; full name Alice Malsenior Walker. She wrote the award-winning The Color Purple (1982), a story about a black woman rebuilding her life after being raped by her supposed father, which was made into a movie in 1985. She also wrote Possessing the Secret of Joy (1992) and By the Light of My Father’s Smile (1998).
