Definition of Veblen, Thorstein
  • (1857–1929), US economist and social scientist; full name Thorstein Bunde Veblen. He coined the phrase “conspicuous consumption.” His works include The Theory of the Leisure Class (1899), a critique of capitalism, and The Theory of Business Enterprise (1904).
