  • (1930-), US composer and lyricist; full name Stephen Joshua Sondheim. He became known for his lyrics for West Side Story (1957) and has since written a number of musicals, including A Little Night Music (1973), Sweeney Todd (1979), and Sunday in the Park with George (1984).
