Definition of Schumann, Robert
(1810–56), German composer; full name Robert Alexander Schumann. A leading romantic composer, he is particularly noted for his songs and piano music, as well as for four symphonies and much chamber music. His wife Clara Wieck (1819–96) was a noted pianist and composer.
